Diagram

Zone diagram of Rondo Passing. Five passers stand around a faceoff circle with one X defender in the middle. The puck goes from passer to passer across and around the circle, and the X intercepts the fourth pass. The X then takes that passer's spot and the passer moves to the middle.

Coaching points

How it runs

  1. Groups of 5-7. 4-5 passers around a small circle (20x20 ft, or a faceoff circle) and 1-2 defenders in the middle.
  2. Progression 1: pass around the circle with no defender.
  3. Progression 2: one puck, follow your pass. Then two pucks, follow your pass.
  4. Progression 3: one puck and one defender. If the defender intercepts, they swap with the passer.
  5. Progression 4: two defenders, one puck. Rotate defenders every 30-60 seconds; 5+ passes in a row scores a point.
